Your adventure kicks off in Shkodra, a lively northern Albanian town with deep cultural roots and easy access from Tirana or Podgorica. Soon after, trade city streets for the wild as you glide across the jade-green waters of Koman Lake, a hidden gem resembling a Scandinavian fjord.

In the heart of the Albanian Alps, explore the dramatic Valbona Valley before heading deeper into the untouched wilderness of the Gashi River Reserve. Spend a night off-grid in a shepherd’s hut in Doberdol, surrounded by nothing but peaks and sky. Summit Mt. Trekufiri, where Albania, Montenegro, and Kosovo meet, offering a rare, wide-angle view of the Balkans.

Continue into Montenegro’s rugged Prokletije National Park, cooling off with a dip in the translucent waters of Lake Hrid. Trek along dramatic ridgelines above the Grbaja Valley and reach the summits of Taljanka and Popadija for unforgettable views.

Return to Albania via an ancient caravan path, scale the craggy Mt. Arapi, and descend into Theth, a timeless mountain village. Learn about the region’s centuries-old Kanun code, visit the turquoise depths of the Blue Eye spring, and complete your alpine loop back in vibrant Shkodra.

Tour provider's comments

Difficulty: 3/4 – Challenging

This tour includes six hikes, each lasting up to 7 hours (average around 6 hours), with elevation gains reaching as much as 1,250 meters.

Expect demanding days in mountainous and alpine terrain where a good level of fitness is important. While prior trekking experience is beneficial, it's not strictly necessary—confidence in your physical ability and solid footing are key. You'll need to be prepared for unpredictable weather, rough and unmarked trails, and remote conditions.

Most hiking days range between 5 and 8 hours, though some may stretch longer when crossing mountain passes or summiting peaks—these are typically optional. Daily elevation gains generally range from 900 to 1,000 meters, with occasional climbs up to 1,100 or even 1,300 meters.
