Montenegro UNESCO & Heritage Trail

After breakfast, the journey continues to Cetinje, the former royal capital of Montenegro and an important cultural and historical center. The program includes a walk through the town known for its museums, historic buildings, and religious landmarks.

The route then leads to Lovcen National Park, with stops at panoramic viewpoints overlooking the Bay of Kotor. The visit includes the mausoleum of Petar II Petrovic Njegos, located on one of the mountain’s highest peaks.

The tour proceeds towards Kotor, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You will explore the Old Town with its narrow streets, squares, churches, and city walls.

A short drive brings you to Perast, a baroque coastal town. The program includes views of the nearby islands with historic Catholic churches.

In the evening, return to Podgorica.

After breakfast, departure from Podgorica towards Ostrog Monastery, located high in the cliffs of Ostrog Mountain. The visit includes the monastery complex and an introduction to its religious significance, the cult of Saint Vasilije, and traditional fresco painting.

The journey continues towards the Durmitor region with stops at panoramic viewpoints overlooking the Piva River Canyon and Piva Lake. Along the way, there is an opportunity to experience local specialties typical for the mountain area.

Upon arrival in Durmitor National Park, a UNESCO-listed area, the program includes exploration of the mountain landscape known for its distinctive geological features and traditional seasonal settlements.

Depending on weather conditions, the route may continue further into the mountain area.

Arrival in Zabljak, the highest town in the Balkans, where you will spend the night.

The day begins with a visit to Black Lake, the highlight of Durmitor National Park. A walk around the lake offers scenic views of the surrounding landscape.

The route continues to a viewpoint over Tara Canyon, the deepest in Europe. The observation point provides views of the canyon’s deepest section amid ancient coniferous forests.

Next, exploration of a site featuring stećci, the medieval tombstones known locally as Greek graveyards, a recent UNESCO-protected heritage.

In the nearby area, the program includes visits to Vrazje and Riblje glacial lakes, two of Durmitor’s “mountain eyes.” These lakes are part of the massif’s 18 glacial lakes, each with associated local legends.

Return to Zabljak for the night.

The day starts with a visit to Tara Bridge and surrounding canyon landscapes. The program includes a descent to the Tara River and its rapids, with an optional zip-line experience.

Along the route, exploration of a protected black pine forest reserve within the canyon, featuring centuries-old trees.

Next stop is Biogradska Gora National Park with its glacier lake and ancient virgin forest. Visitors can walk around the lake and take an optional canoe ride among massive old-growth trees.

The journey continues to Moraca Monastery beside the Moraca River, known for its valuable icons and frescoes. The visit covers this historic religious site and its cultural significance.

Final stop features a viewpoint in the Moraca Canyon, offering perspectives of the river and dramatic steep cliffs.

Return to Podgorica in the evening.

After breakfast, the driver will collect your luggage and transfer you directly to Podgorica Airport for departure.
