Montenegro National Parks: From Lakes to Peaks

The day begins with a journey towards Lovćen National Park, a mountain region closely associated with Montenegro’s history and identity. En route, there is a stop at the Pavlova Strana viewpoint, offering panoramic views over Skadar Lake, followed by a visit to the small town of Rijeka Crnojevića.

The program continues within Lovćen National Park, including a walk through the beech forests of Ivanova Korita and a stop at a well-known natural spring. The route then leads to the mausoleum located at the summit, reached by climbing 461 steps, where visitors are rewarded with views over Boka Bay.

Further exploration includes a visit to the village of Njeguši, historically linked to the Petrović dynasty, along with an opportunity to sample traditional Montenegrin smoked ham. After the program, return to Podgorica for an overnight stay in a 4-star hotel.

Departure towards northern Montenegro, passing through the Morača River Canyon and stopping at the Morača Monastery. Arrival at Biogradska Gora National Park, where the program continues at Biogradsko Lake.

A walk is planned along a circular trail around the glacial lake, leading through one of Europe’s remaining primeval forests, with views of preserved vegetation and centuries-old trees. The visit also includes the park’s visitor center, offering insight into local wildlife and cultural heritage. A boat ride on the lake is possible during the visit.

In the second part of the day, the program allows for a visit to a local farm with a tasting of regional cheese or an ascent by ski lift to one of the peaks of Bjelasica Mountain.

Transfer to a 4-star hotel in Kolašin or Berane for overnight stay.

The day is dedicated to exploring Prokletije National Park, with the route leading through the area of Plavsko Lake, the largest glacial lake in Montenegro and the source of the Lim River. The program includes a walk along the lake shore and a visit to a botanical garden located in this region.

Within the national park, the itinerary continues to Ali Pasini’s Springs, a notable karst water source, followed by a walk to another natural site famous for its distinctive water color. The route also offers views of the rugged peaks of the Prokletije massif.

On the return journey, there is a visit to the Redžepagića Tower, an example of oriental architecture, as well as a drive through the villages surrounding Plavsko Lake. Overnight stay in a 4-star hotel in Kolašin or Berane.

The day is devoted to Durmitor National Park, a UNESCO-listed natural area known for its glacial landscapes, mountain scenery, and the Tara River Canyon. The route includes a stop at the Tara River, followed by crossing the Tara Bridge, which offers views over the canyon.

The program continues with a walk through a black pine forest and viewpoints overlooking the deepest sections of the Tara Canyon. An optional zip line experience is available in the area. The visit concludes at Black Lake, the largest glacial lake in the park, where there is time for a walk along its shore.

Return to Podgorica in the evening and overnight stay in a 4-star hotel.
