Montenegro's Hidden Rural Treasures

Departure towards the Žijovo mountain massif, following the panoramic "Circle around Korita" route, known for its striking landscapes and historic villages. The drive passes through settlements inhabited by both Montenegrin and Albanian communities, offering insight into the region's traditional way of life.

The program includes a visit to a local household, where guests are introduced to regional cuisine with a tasting of traditional dishes. A short walk leads to the Grlo Sokolovo viewpoint, overlooking the Cijevna River canyon, with views of dramatic cliffs and surrounding terrain. Along the way, participants will also see traditional cattle houses characteristic of the area.

The cultural part of the day features the remains of an ancient Illyrian settlement dating back to the 3rd century BC, followed by a visit to the museum dedicated to Marko Miljanov, a notable Montenegrin warrior and writer.

Journey from central Montenegro to the northern Piva region, passing through diverse landscapes featuring canyons, rivers, lakes, and mountains. The route includes Zeta Nature Park along the Zeta River, where a local household showcases traditional area lifestyle.

The drive continues through Nikšić, Montenegro's second largest city. Arrival at an ethno village positioned along the former Komarnica River canyon offers scenic views paired with tasting of local specialties prepared on site.

A visit to a nearby renowned Montenegrin monastery provides insight into its distinctive history.

Travel across Durmitor mountain via one of Montenegro's most scenic panoramic routes through the Durmitor massif and its national park, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1980. The journey reveals stunning viewpoints and distinctive geological formations of the area.

Exploration includes visits to traditional katun herding settlements typical of Montenegrin highlands, where locals bring cattle during summer months before descending prior to winter snows. Optional horse riding is available for those interested.

Travel to the Tara River for a rubber boat ride through its rapids, showcasing Europe's deepest canyon at 1330 meters. The route features views from and of the spectacular Đjurdjevica Tara bridge, with an optional zip line experience, one of Europe's longest.

After rafting, enjoy lunch featuring local delicacies beside the fast-flowing stream. In the afternoon, take a walk around Black Lake, the largest of 18 glacial lakes within the Durmitor massif area and a highlight of the national park.

Before departing the Durmitor area, visits to two glacial lakes and the medieval Stećci cemetery reveal its enigmatic origins. The route then proceeds through the Tara River canyon to an ancient black pine forest featuring centuries-old trees reaching up to 50 meters in height.

Arrival at Biogradska Gora National Park and its namesake glacial lake, followed by a stop at a local household renowned for producing famous cheese and other specialties. Tasting of these items concludes the day.

Exploration begins in the northeastern region at a katun settlement near the Komovi mountains, where participants taste blueberry liqueur, Šljivovica brandy, and traditional pie. A walk leads toward the mountain peaks, with opportunity to pick blueberries en route.

The afternoon focuses on multicultural heritage zones near the Albanian border, including Lake Plav, Montenegro's largest glacial lake, and Prokletije National Park. Visit to Alipašini Springs, a key site for summer traditional gatherings.

Return journey to central Montenegro passes through the 1000-meter-deep Morača River canyon. Exploration continues with a walk along the Mrtvica River canyon, including opportunity for swimming in its rapids.

Visit to the 13th-century Morača Monastery, one of Montenegro's most notable religious sites.

On our final day, we explore old Montenegro, featuring visits to Lake Skadar and Lovćen national parks. Our journey includes the historic capital Cetinje and ascent of Lovćen mountain to its second-highest peak, site of the mausoleum honoring ruler, poet, and philosopher Petar II Petrović Njegoš.

We take in panoramic views over the Bay of Kotor before stopping in Njeguši village for tasting of traditional Njeguši prosciutto and cheese prepared in ancestral methods.

After breakfast, we organize your transfer to Podgorica or Tivat airport.
