The Grand Tour of Classical Greece

After breakfast, the day is dedicated to a guided exploration of Athens.

The program includes a city tour of Athens with a visit to the Acropolis, where you will see its most important monuments, including the Parthenon, the Erechtheion, and the monumental entrance known as the Propylaea.

The excursion continues with a visit to the Archaeological Museum of Athens (National Museum of Athens), showcasing key historical collections of the country.

Return to the hotel in Athens for overnight stay.

Following breakfast, the tour continues north towards Meteora with a stop at Thermopylae along the way.

The program includes arrival in the Meteora region near Kalambaka, where visits are made to the Byzantine monasteries situated on towering rock formations above the Pinios River. These monasteries, founded in the 14th century by monks seeking seclusion, are located on steep rock pillars of striking natural shapes. During the visit, you will see the monastic complexes that preserve religious heritage through icons, manuscripts, mosaics, and frescoes.

In the evening, arrival in Kalambaka for overnight stay.

After breakfast in Kalambaka, there is a visit to the Meteora area, where the monasteries are located on dramatic rock formations and contain examples of Byzantine art. Following the visit, the journey continues towards Delphi.

Arrival in Delphi is scheduled for the early afternoon, with check-in at the hotel upon arrival.

After breakfast, the visit in Delphi includes both the archaeological site and the museum. Here you will explore the sanctuary of Apollo, the Temple of Apollo, and the Castalia Springs, as well as the museum’s highlights, including the famous Charioteer statue.

After the visit, the journey continues west along the southern coast of mainland Greece, passing through Galaxidi, Nafpaktos, Antirion, and Rio before crossing into the Peloponnese.

The route leads to ancient Olympia, located in a green valley surrounded by hills and forested landscapes, where the ancient site awaits.

After departing from Olympia, the journey continues to Pylos, reaching the region after approximately two hours of driving. The program includes a visit to the Mycenaean palace traditionally associated with Nestor from Homer's Odyssey, located near the modern town of Pylos.

The day also features a visit to the Old Navarino Castle, situated on Palaikastro Hill, overlooking the surrounding landscape.

In the evening, dinner will be served at a local restaurant, offering a selection of regional specialties. Overnight in Pylos.

After breakfast, the journey continues from Pylos towards the village of Vasta. The day's visit focuses on the small church of Agia Theodora, known for the remarkable trees growing directly from its roof. Around seventeen trees of varying sizes surround and support the structure, while their roots remain hidden from view both inside and outside the church. Following the visit, lunch featuring local specialities will be served at a nearby restaurant. In the afternoon, the tour proceeds to Sparta, where accommodation is arranged for the night.

After breakfast, visit Mystras, the former Byzantine capital on the slopes of Mount Taygetos, including its Byzantine monuments and monasteries.

The journey then continues to Nafplion for lunch before proceeding to Mycenae to explore the archaeological site and museum. Later, visit Epidaurus and its famous ancient theatre, renowned for its exceptional acoustics.

In the afternoon, drive back to Athens via Corinth, arriving in the city for overnight accommodation.

After breakfast, transfer to Athens Airport for your return flight home.
