Pindos Highlands Horseshoe Trek

Today's hike begins in Vitsa and follows the historic Vitsa Steps into the Vikos Gorge. Along the route, cross one of the region’s iconic stone-arched bridges before ascending to the villages of Koukouli and Kipi, where several remarkable historic bridges can be admired. Continue through a forested landscape to Dilofo, a village recognized as a monument of local architecture. After time to explore its central square, return to Vitsa.

After a short transfer to Monodendri, begin an unforgettable hike through the Vikos Gorge, one of the world's deepest canyons. Descend into the gorge to reach the river that winds through its floor, then follow the watercourse through the heart of the National Park. The trail leads across this spectacular natural landscape before a final ascent brings you to the village of Vikos, where you will spend the night.

Hiking duration: 6-7 hours

Return to Vikos Village and begin today's hike towards Mikro Papingo. The trail first descends to the Voidomatis Springs before climbing the northwestern side of the Vikos Gorge. Continue through forested paths beneath the striking Papingo Towers, one of the region’s most distinctive natural landmarks, before arriving in the traditional village of Mikro Papingo. The remainder of the day is free to relax or visit the natural pools near the village.

Hiking duration: 4 hours

Today's route leads from Mikro Papingo into the high-altitude landscapes of Mount Timfi. The trail ascends through a remote mountain environment, passing numerous natural springs on the way to the Astraka Mountain Refuge. From here, continue to Drakolimni, an alpine lake situated at 2,050 meters above sea level, with panoramic views across the Pindos mountain range. After exploring the area, return to the refuge for an overnight stay.

Hiking duration: 6 hours

Today’s hike takes you across the Timfi mountain range on a long route through the highlands. Descend from the mountain refuge towards the open plains beneath the cliffs of Astraka, then continue to the Loutsa Robozi water reservoir, traditionally used by shepherds to water their animals during summer. The trail leads to the entrance of Megas Lakos Canyon, which extends towards Vikos, before passing a natural spring and continuing to the lands of Tsepelovo, the final destination of the day.

Hiking duration: 8 hours

The final day follows ancient stone paths (kalderimia) across the Vradeto plains, the highest village area of Zagori. Visit the Beloi viewpoint overlooking the gorge before continuing to Vradeto village for a short stop. From here, descend via the Vradeto Steps down to Kapesovo. The journey concludes with a drive to Elati, where the overnight stay is arranged.

Hiking duration: 7 hours

Enjoy a final breakfast in Elati village while taking in the surrounding views and sharing memories from the journey. Departure from Elati marks the end of the tour.
