Zadvarje — Meeting Point & Preparation
The tour starts in Zadvarje, a peaceful village above the canyon, located about 35 km from Split and 25 km from Makarska. Free parking is available at the canyoning center. Here, your guide will:
- Give a safety briefing
- Fit you with your wetsuit, helmet, and PFD
- Walk you down to the canyon entrance
The Canyon Entrance — First Steps
The descent into Cetina Canyon begins immediately. Towering limestone walls rise on either side as the trail follows the riverbank into the gorge. The water is clear and refreshing, ranging from 15°C to 19°C depending on the season. The canyon floor alternates between smooth rock, shallow rapids, and deep, calm pools.
Natural Pools & Rapids
The first section features a series of natural pools linked by short rapids. Your guide sets the pace and highlights the safest and most exciting lines through the water. Swimming is not optional — it’s how the river moves you through the canyon.
Underground Tunnels
Along the 2.1 km route, the canyon occasionally goes underground. These short tunnels, carved by the river over thousands of years, are navigated on foot or by swimming, depending on water levels. Expect:
- Low ceilings
- Cool, refreshing air
- Complete darkness for a few seconds
Gubavica Waterfall Area
The 60-metre Gubavica Waterfall is one of Croatia’s tallest and most iconic waterfalls. The basic route reaches its base, where the plunge pool is deep and icy. The waterfall’s spray can reach well beyond its base. Thrill-seekers can enjoy cliff jumps up to 3 metres, selected by your guide according to water levels and conditions.
Canyon Exit — Return to Zadvarje
The tour concludes near the starting point, where transport back to Omiš, Split, or Makarska can be arranged.
- Time in the canyon: 2–2.5 hours
- Total time from meeting to finish: ~4 hours
