Zadvarje — Meeting Point and Briefing
The tour begins at the canyoning centre in Zadvarje, about 35 km from Split via the A1 motorway (exit Šestanovac). Free parking is available on site. Your guide fits you with all equipment and runs the full safety briefing before walking you down to the canyon entrance.
Canyon Entrance — Into the Gorge
The descent into Cetina Canyon is immediate. Limestone walls close in on both sides as the trail follows the river into the gorge. The water is clear and cold — between 15°C and 19°C — and the route ahead alternates between rock, rapids, natural pools, and underground passages.
Rapids, Pools and Underground Tunnels
The first section of the route moves through the canyon floor — swimming through natural pools, navigating short rapids, and passing through underground tunnels carved by the river at lower water levels. These tunnels are among the most distinctive features of the Cetina canyon, where the river found its way through the limestone rather than over it.
Gubavica Waterfall — 60-Metre Abseil
Gubavica is the centrepiece of the extreme route. At 60 metres, it is one of the tallest waterfalls in Croatia, visible and audible from some distance before you reach it. The abseil descends the full face of the waterfall — your guide rigs the rope at the top and manages the descent while you work your way down the rock face alongside the falling water. The plunge pool at the base is deep and cold. This is the point most people remember longest.
Second Abseil — 20 Metres
Further along the canyon, a second abseil drops 20 metres down a steep limestone cliff above another natural pool. Shorter than Gubavica but more vertical — a different kind of commitment.
Cliff Jumps — 5m, 7m and 9m
At three points along the route, the canyon offers cliff jumps into deep natural pools. Your guide identifies the right spot based on water level and conditions and confirms the landing is clear before anyone goes. Jumps are at 5, 7, and 9 metres. All are optional — but most people do them.
Canyon Exit — Zadvarje
The route finishes back near the start point, where transport to Omiš, Split, or Makarska can be arranged. Total time in the canyon: 2 to 2.5 hours. Total time from meeting to finish: approximately 4 hours.
