White Spine Trail of the Dinaric Alps

After breakfast, you'll be introduced to the horses and take part in a riding assessment to evaluate the group's skill level. We’ll then set off on a relaxed 2-hour morning ride, giving you the chance to bond with the horse you'll be riding for the rest of the week.

Lunch will be served back at the ranch, followed by a trip to Sarajevo for a guided walking tour (approx. 2 hours). You'll explore the city's rich history, diverse culture, and stunning architecture. The day ends with dinner at a traditional local restaurant.

Be sure to pack your bag carefully; it will be transported by our trail support vehicle. After breakfast, we’ll set off heading northwest along a scenic trail. The horses will be well-rested, and the mostly flat terrain allows for easy trotting and cantering.

As we descend towards the Lepenica River, you’ll enjoy riding through shallow waters and taking in the waterfalls. For the next 15 kilometers, we’ll mostly walk and trot along peaceful forest paths, passing through a few Everglades. Relax and soak up the beautiful views alongside the gentle sounds of the Crna Rijeka (Black River).

Lunch will feature freshly grilled trout, followed by a restful break in hammocks by the river. Late afternoon, we’ll arrive at our first overnight stop, the charming Mountain Lodge Lopata, where you can share your day’s experiences over delicious local cuisine.

After a hearty breakfast and strong coffee, we’ll prepare our horses for the next stage of the journey. The trail climbs steadily, reaching an altitude of 1,744 meters after a 1,324-meter ascent. We’ll follow forest paths and gentle glades, crossing the tree line at 1,600 meters to reveal the stunning Bitovnja Plateau.

The vast mountain pastures invite canters and gallops against breathtaking panoramic views that stretch across Bosnia. After about 10 kilometers, we’ll meet the trail support vehicle for a picnic featuring a hot traditional Bosnian meal of bean soup and sausages, served on the spectacular high plains.

The ride continues through these expansive pastures—undoubtedly the most scenic part of our adventure—before descending to our overnight stop at Mountain Lodge Pogorelica. Enjoy a well-earned dinner, share your impressions, and prepare for the day ahead.

We're ready for an exhilarating 25-kilometer ride, starting with a steady climb up Zec Mountain. This demanding three-hour ascent rewards us with spectacular views of lush mountain pastures dotted with thousands of sheep and the shepherds’ huts nestled in the valley below. The slopes are carpeted with wild cranberries and blueberries, adding bursts of color to the scenery.

On a clear day, we might even catch a glimpse of Sarajevo in the distance. Midway, we’ll pause at a stunning viewpoint for a saddle-bag picnic, while our horses graze and rest.

Our journey then continues to the enchanting Prokoško Lake, known as the “eye of the mountain” and celebrated as one of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s most beautiful natural treasures. Surrounded by the majestic Vranica range, this area features traditional wooden shepherds’ huts, where we’ll spend a cozy night.

After saying goodbye to the breathtaking Prokoško Lake, we’ll set off on a 3–4 hour ride through the picturesque village of Toveriste, arriving in the charming town of Fojnica. Before parting ways with our horses, we’ll enjoy a relaxing picnic lunch together.

Following lunch, our riding adventure concludes, and we’ll travel back to the Equestrian Center by car. On the way, we’ll stop at a luxurious local spa to unwind with a swim, sauna, steam room, and massage, leaving you feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.

Back at the farm, we’ll celebrate with a farewell dinner, sharing stories and memories from an unforgettable week.

After breakfast, you’ll have the chance to say farewell to the horses before being transferred either to the airport, your accommodation in Sarajevo, or onward to additional tours offered by our trusted partners.
