Deep Underground: Derinkuyu

As the deepest underground city in Cappadocia, Derinkuyu is an engineering marvel. Please note that the exploration involves descending steep, narrow staircases and navigating tunnels with lower ceilings. The environment is cool and dimly lit. If you have concerns regarding tight spaces or mobility, please inform your guide; they are experts at adjusting the route to ensure you feel comfortable while still seeing the most impressive sections. Derinkuyu Underground City is not recommended for guests with claustrophobia, mobility issues, back or knee concerns, or respiratory conditions due to its steep, narrow, and low-ceilinged tunnels.

The Ihlara Valley Trek

The 3 km hike through Ihlara Valley is a highlight of the day. The path is generally flat and scenic, winding along the Melendiz River. However, there are some steps to descend into the valley and ascend back out. We recommend sturdy, comfortable footwear with good traction, as the riverbank paths can occasionally be uneven or damp.

Terrain and Preparation

Between the valley trek and the historic climbs at Selime Monastery (which is carved into a steep cliff), you will be on your feet for significant portions of the day. We recommend dressing in comfortable, breathable clothing and wearing supportive walking shoes.
