Time flows gently through Zemun, where the calm rhythm of the Danube and the quiet charm of historic streets reveal a different side of Belgrade. This short walking experience introduces the unique character of a former Habsburg border town, shaped by Central European influences, river life, and centuries of layered history.

The route leads through the preserved streets of Zemun’s old town toward Gardoš Hill, the historic heart of the settlement since Celtic and Roman times. Along the way, you encounter key landmarks such as Orthodox churches, the historic Karamata Palace, and the Millennium Tower rising above the rooftops. The walk also reveals stories of the town’s multicultural past and its strategic role on the border between empires, including the historic Kontumac quarantine complex.

Following a relaxed walk, the route descends to the Danube riverfront, where riverside views, historic taverns, and local stories reveal the atmosphere of old Zemun. This experience is tailored for travelers who enjoy short, easy walks and want to discover a quieter, more atmospheric side of Belgrade.
