Montenegro Coastal Peaks & Cultural Trails

The day begins with a hike along scenic coastal trails above the Adriatic, starting slightly inland and gradually opening up views over the sea. The route crosses the Milovići area, with optional extension toward the historic Praskvica Monastery, known for its peaceful setting in the hills above the coast. The walk can be adapted in length depending on preference, making it suitable for both relaxed hikers and more active participants.

In the afternoon, continuation to Budva Old Town, where narrow streets, stone architecture, and fortified walls reflect the city’s Venetian heritage. Time to explore the waterfront and nearby beaches before continuing along the coast.

The route then passes the iconic Sveti Stefan peninsula, a striking islet connected to the mainland and one of the most recognisable landmarks of Montenegro.

Optional activity: boat excursion along the Petrovac coastline, offering views of small islands and hidden coves (approx. 2 hours).

Return to the guesthouse near Petrovac for dinner and overnight stay.

Morning departure toward Lake Skadar National Park, the largest lake in the Balkans, shared between Montenegro and Albania. A boat excursion takes you across calm waters surrounded by wetlands, reed beds, and mountain scenery, with opportunities to observe the park’s rich birdlife along the way.

During the cruise, there are stops for swimming in the lake’s clear waters, depending on conditions and group preference.

In the afternoon, time is spent at one of the lake’s natural swimming spots before returning to the accommodation in Petrovac.

Dinner and overnight stay in the village guesthouse.

Option 1 — High Coastal Ridge & Ulcinj

Morning hike to the Jamuria ridge (up to ~1600 m) with views over Lake Skadar and the Adriatic Sea. Stop near a mountain monastery and picnic along the route. Descent toward Stari Bar, an old fortified site with Venetian and Ottoman heritage.

Afternoon continuation to Ulcinj. Time to explore the old town and nearby coastline, including Mala Plaža or Velika Plaža beaches, with optional visit to olive groves.

Hike: 5 hrs, +600 m / -600 m

Option 2 — Easy Mountain Walk & Stari Bar

Short morning hike in the southern coastal hills with panoramic views of the region.

Afternoon visit to Stari Bar, known for its historic ruins and stone architecture.

Return to the guesthouse for dinner and overnight stay.

Morning departure toward the Maganik mountain area in northern Montenegro. Hike through a canyon landscape following a river course upstream, with opportunities to reach natural pools suitable for swimming in fresh mountain water. The route is flexible and can be adapted depending on energy level and preferences.

Hiking time: approx. 5 hours, +/- 300 m elevation

On the return drive to the coast, stop in Podgorica for a short visit of the old Ottoman-influenced quarter, located near the modern city center, where historical architecture contrasts with contemporary urban life.

Return to the seaside guesthouse for dinner and overnight stay.

Morning departure toward Lake Skadar region with a stop in Rijeka Crnojevića, a historic riverside settlement connected to one of the lake’s main waterways.

Continue to Cetinje, the former royal capital of Montenegro, known for its 19th-century consulates and preserved historical architecture.

Ascend into Lovćen National Park via the scenic mountain road to Jezerski Vrh, where the Njegoš Mausoleum is located, offering panoramic views over the surrounding landscapes.

Descent along the famous serpentine road toward Kotor, with wide views over the Bay of Kotor.

Return to the guesthouse for dinner and overnight stay

Morning exploration of Kotor Old Town, a UNESCO-listed fortified city with narrow streets and historic stone architecture. Optional climb to San Giovanni Fortress along the city walls, offering elevated views over the Bay of Kotor.

In the afternoon, continuation to Perast, a coastal settlement known for its Venetian-era architecture and historic churches. Boat transfer to the islet of Our Lady of the Rocks, with time to visit the church and its small museum.

Return to the guesthouse for dinner and overnight stay

Morning transfer from the coast to Podgorica. Arrival at the airport, return of the rental car, and check-in for departure flight.
