Travelers drive to Borovets Resort, ascend by chairlift to Yastrebets Hut (2,369 m), then enjoy a series of enchanting hikes past Musala Hut and the glacial Ice Lake before reaching the summit.

Route details
You depart Sofia or Plovdiv for a 2-hour drive to Borovets Resort. From there, you board the chairlift up to Yastrebets Hut at 2,369 m.
After a short rest, you hike for an hour from Yastrebets Hut to Musala Hut, where you enjoy a picnic lunch amid the tranquil Rila Mountains.
Then, travelers continue hiking for 1.5 hours to the Ice Lake at 2,709 m.
From the lake, it is a 30-minute ascent to Musala Peak (2,925 m), the highest point in the Balkans.
After taking in the views atop Musala, you retrace your steps on a 3 hour descent back to Yastrebets Hut.
Finally, you return by chairlift and transfer back to Sofia.
