This tour takes you into Rila National Park to discover the famous Seven Rila Lakes.

You journey 100 km south of the capital, ascend by chairlift, and hike at a leisurely pace through pristine forests and alpine meadows. Along the way, travelers visit glacial basins named for their unique shapes — Salzata (The Tear), Okoto (The Eye), Babreka (The Kidney), Bliznaka (The Twin), Trilistnika (The Trefoil), Ribnoto Ezero (The Fish Lake), and Dolnoto Ezero (The Lower Lake). With awe-inspiring panoramas, the park also contains historic sites and the headwaters of the Balkans’ major rivers.

Route details

First, we drive through rolling countryside to the Panichishte cable‐car station.

From there, travelers board the chairlift up to the Seven Rila Lakes and begin their hike among the famous glacial basins. Along the way, they pass Salzata (“the Tear”), Okoto (“the Eye”), Babreka (“the Kidney”), Bliznaka (“the Twin”), Trilistnika (“the Trefoil”), Ribnoto Ezero (“the Fish Lake”), and finally Dolnoto Ezero (“the Lower Lake”), which feeds the Dzherman River.

Next, participants enjoy a picnic amid the lakes’ tranquil beauty, then spend the afternoon exploring the cirque and taking in the panoramic mountain views.

Afterwards, they trek back to the Rila Lakes Hut and descend by chairlift to Panichishte.

Finally, they return to Sofia or Plovdiv.
