Across Borders and Seas: Albania, Ohrid & Corfu

Wake up in Shkodra and head straight to the water. We board a speedboat and slice through Koman Lake, where emerald-green water winds between steep cliffs and forested slopes, calm, cinematic, unreal. Cameras out, jaws down.

We follow the Shala River deeper into the wild and stop to swim in water so clear the stones shimmer beneath your feet. Float, sun-dry, repeat. No rush.

By afternoon, we glide back south to Tirana. Check in, reset and choose your own pace: a relaxed dinner, a long walk, or a night out in the city that never quite goes to bed early.

We travel east toward Lake Ohrid, one of Europe’s oldest lakes, still, deep and endlessly calm. Our first stop is Lin. We wander its narrow streets, stone houses leaning toward the water, time moving slower here.

Next, we continue along the shore and cross into North Macedonia to explore Ohrid. Cobbled lanes, ancient churches, lake views at every turn. History everywhere, never heavy, always alive.

By afternoon, we roll into Korca. We stroll the old bazaar, hear music drift from cafés and settle into the city’s soulful pace. This is Albania’s cultural heart, and tonight, you get to feel it.

We start slow and sweet, meeting a local beekeeper and getting hands-on with an age-old craft. Taste fresh honey straight from the source and learn how tradition still shapes daily life here.

Next, we step into Voskopoja, once a major cultural center. We walk between centuries-old churches, their frescoes telling stories long before guidebooks existed.

From there, we climb higher to Dardha. Stone houses, cool mountain air and wide views set the tone. By evening, we arrive in Leskovik and settle into an agritourism stay by the Vjosa River.

We wake gently to farm life. Horses graze, sheep wander, morning feels unhurried. Take it in, breathe it out.

Then we hit the road toward Permet, following one of the Balkans’ most beautiful drives. At Benja, we step into warm mineral pools, steaming beneath a medieval stone bridge. Float, relax, reset.

Feeling active? You can raft the wild Vjosa River. Or simply linger by the water. By afternoon, we roll into Gjirokastra. Stone houses, steep lanes and Ottoman rooftops signal our arrival in the legendary “Stone City.”

We start in the heart of Gjirokastra. Slate roofs, steep stone streets and wide views from the castle walls. We wander the old bazaar, where time feels layered and unhurried.

At midday, we sit down at “Grandpa’s” and taste tradition. Home-style dishes, local recipes and the kind of hospitality you remember long after.

In the afternoon, we leave the mountains behind and head for the coast. A stop at the Blue Eye offers one last wow: crystal-clear water, impossibly blue, deep and still. Then on to Saranda, where the sea takes over.

We cross the Ionian by ferry and step onto Corfu, where layers of Venetian, French and British history shape the streets and façades. The pace changes instantly, relaxed, elegant, unmistakably Greek.

We explore the UNESCO-listed Old Town, getting lost on purpose among pastel buildings, arcades and hidden squares. Wide views open at Spianada, then we slow it down with a walk along the Liston promenade.

The evening is yours to enjoy. Choose a seaside dinner, linger over wine or simply wander as Corfu glows after sunset.

We cross back to Albania, the Riviera unfolding through olive groves, hidden coves and endless sea views. In Borsh, walk the long sandy beach or just let your feet sink into the warm sand.

Next, wander the stone streets of Qeparo, quiet lanes, traditional houses, life at a slower pace. We then step inside Porto Palermo Castle, a romantic fortress perched by the sea, where history and waves meet.

By evening, we arrive in Himara, settle in, and soak in the coastal atmosphere—the perfect base for the next days of sun, sea, and adventure.

We start the day with a swim in Himara, the Ionian sparkling under morning sun. Then we visit Dhermi, wandering its sunlit lanes and soaking up the village charm.

Next, we ascend into Llogara National Park, where the mountains open onto sweeping coastal panoramas. Along the way, we encounter friendly deer, a magical moment in the alpine air.

By evening, we descend to Vlora, coastal city where Adriatic meets Ionian, and settle in for a relaxed night.

We wake to Vlora’s morning energy, strolling the seaside Lungomare or pausing at the Independence Monument. Take in the coast, watch boats drift, hear the waves.

Before departure, wander a final market or beach, picking up souvenirs, snapping last photos, savoring the Ionian air. Then we transfer to Tirana Airport, leaving with memories of Albania’s sea, mountains, and timeless towns.
